Before „My Name is King" performances, workshops with children are organized by some cities - involving local authorities, schools and waste companies.
The autumn 2006 tour preceded one week long workshops in four different cities… Children aged 9–12 years were involved in the shows.
Two other projects involving children and youth took place in Bavaria/ Germany in November 2006.
The workshops are to be realized in a short time before the performances and connect with the professional presentation on stage. Each workshop step is open to parents and local community in order to share and disseminate the creative process.
The project aims at enlargement of public interest in a creative process and build up new audiences for contemporary performances by active collaboration with local communities few days/weeks before each performance.
The target group are pupils of the schools, pupil’s families, teachers, workshop organizers, interested local authorities and local community. Children are motivated to develop own actions with a clear – directed – theatrical intention and aim, which correspond to the performance needs. Through these actions, exercises and games they develop their individual responsibility, self control and collaboration within a group. They also create objects out of recycle material and products of this creation become part of My Name is King scenography. Through this part of workshop pupils improve ability in project managing, preparation and planning as well as develop their manual ability.
Objectives of Baraccopoli dei Bambini workshops are in strengthening both creative ideas and sensibilities, social and ecological awareness of pupils, teachers, parents and local community. Involvement of a wide range of people in a common purpose, on and off stage, to improve and give value to social outcomes.
